The Las Puertas development acquired 460 hectares (approximately 1,100 acres) for a project consisting of at least one, 18-hole Nicklaus Signature course with a golf club, small hotel and upscale residential community. According to developers presenting the project during an April, 2003 press conference, the development represents an investment of U.S. $50 million, and plans include a second 18-hole course.

On April 23, 2003, Jack Nicklaus was in San Miguel to formally launch Las Puertas and to promote the sales of 45 founding memberships for U.S. $350,000 each, including selection of a home site in the second phase of development.

The Nicklaus website reports that the first, 18-hole, private Las Puertas golf course is scheduled to open in 2005.
